I’m a card carrying citizen again

I went into my usual bank branch this morning, explained that an ATM gobbled my plastic card yesterday, brandished my most recent bank account statement and my driver’s licence and asked if I could make a withdrawal. “Of course”, was the reply. The teller then offered to retrieve my ATM card from the ATM machine. Once retrieved, it became clear that the card had expired on the last day of June. I received a new card several weeks ago and stuck it in my wallet because the instruction which came with it was to refrain from using it till 1 July. A bank employee tested my brand new card and found that it worked satisfactorily. I’m a card carrying citizen again .. and I now have more than $18 in my pocket.
